Network connectivity problem with ZoneAlarm Pro, VMware / Microsoft Virtual PC resolved

This blog entry had been on my todo list for a long while now and I keep forgetting to write it…

Anyway, for those of you who are just getting your feet wet in virtualization and are wondering why your bridged network connection (i.e. shared with your NIC) in you VM is not working (even though you’re on manual IP config (i.e. not on DHCP)) and have ZoneAlarm Pro installed, you might want to uncheck "Enable ARP protection" in ZoneAlarm Pro’s Firewall > [Advanced] configuration.

I guess ZAP is dropping the ARP reply from the switch as there’s no ARP request from the host itself – if anyone knows exactly why, care to drop me a comment?
